The township has an area of 15.50 Km². In the east, it is the Ribera d'Ebre County, whose capital, Móra d'Ebre, is only ten kilometres far from El Masroig. The municipality also contains the old township of Les Pinyeres, which

The most important activity of the inhabitants is the agriculture. The lands of El Masroig, in their red colour and very flat and well cultivated, produce wine, oil and almonds. In 1917 it was founded the "Sindicat Agrícola i Caixa Rural". Two cellars were constructed, and there was some wine produced in them. During the Civil War in 1936, the two cellars unified. The union was definitely done in 1945, when the Law of Cooperatives promulgated. Then, it changed its name into "Cooperativa Agrícola i Caixa Rural de Sant Bartomeu". This entity commercialises almost all the wine and oil of the harvest, even though there are some private producers who bottle and commercialise their own products. The wines are red, white, sweet, full-bodied for appetizers and mellow. The oil belongs to the "Denominació d'Origen Siurana". The other firm that works with the agricultural foods is the FIP 96.
It commercialises the olives "La Masrotjana", and its most
famous product is one kind of olives called "arbequines".
They are typical from the area, ant they are distributed to many places
around Catalunya. |
